Alex's Bio & Tutoring Experience

Well, I suppose you (parents) need to know a bit about me before I start stating my experience as a tutor. I have grown up and lived in half moon bay, California until I moved to Oregon for college. During my sophomore and junior years in high school I tutored at the middle school in half moon bay (Cunha intermediate school) volunteering at the homework club and assisting students mainly in mathematics and english composition. I believe my strength in math and science (particularly Biology) is what has driven me to choose a major in microbiology, however my passion lies in writing and literature. Towards the latter end of my high school career I assisted fellow students after school in biology and english composition, particularly essays based on books we had read.
This past year in college I found that my passion for literature and analytical writing has grown, and throughout the year I found my dorm mates would ask me for my opinion on their argumentative speeches and essays, as well as objective essays.
I believe I am capable of teaching mathematics up to Algebra 2 very effectively, as well as high school biology, chemistry and physics, however I believe my teaching would do the most in helping students with writing, and critical thinking. This is simply because I am someone who enjoys looking at situations from multiple perspectives, a skill imperative to dissecting prose.

I am currently entering my sophomore year at Oregon State university, I am majoring in microbiology however I am minoring in psychology. I graduated half moon bay high school in 2014. My father (main reason for my pursuit of education) has a masters degree from UCSD in marine biology, and a bachelors in computer science from SFSU.
