Amber's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I have experience teaching and tutoring students from a wide age range, including 4 year olds and non-traditional students. I have been teaching college level composition and literature courses for the last three and a half years and I have been acting as tutor and mentor for local high school students for the last year. Over the past two summers, I have also taught beginning to read skills, study skills, fluency, and word attack skills for students in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. What this has given me is a unique understanding of student development and how even struggling students can be incredibly successful with a little assistance. My tutoring methodology is based around making students feel successful. If a student can see themselves being successful, that builds confidence and future success.

Amber's Education & Certifications

I attended the University of Kentucky where I graduated with degrees in Classics and Anthropology, as well as minors in History and Folklore and Mythology. Following my undergraduate stay at UK, I completed a M.A. at Western Kentucky University in Folk Studies. Currently I am completing my PhD at the University of Louisiana in English. My primary area of research is Renaissance literature, but I have additional interests in folklore, Early American literature, Medieval literature, and fantasy.
