Benjamin's Bio & Tutoring Experience
I have been involved with education for over fourteen years. My greatest passion is to provide students with critical thinkings skills, and to teach them the ability to self-educate. I have tutored and/or taught a number of subjects over the years, including philosophy, history, art, religion, and math. My approach to teaching relies upon the fact that almost every student is naturally curious, and wants to possess the ability to problem-solve, but just needs a workable methodology. Therefore, I focus on developing problem-solving skills, no matter what the subject.
I am well-versed in phenomenology, which examines every subject on its own terms. This has proven to be a powerful method for exploring a vast range of subjects, and provides its user with the independent capacity for original and insightful research.

Benjamin's Education & Certifications
My educational background is quite colorful. From K-12, I was educated in Catholic schools. After a year at Kendall College of Art and Design, I dropped out in order to better explore the world in person. After two years of travel, I joined a monastery, where I learned ancient languages and meditative practices. From there, I returned to school, studying a wide-range of subjects, but finally settling on philosophy and the historical study of religion. I received my Bachelors in the major of Philosophy at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and my Masters in the major of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia. For the past decade, I have been researching the history of the concept of Time in Asian religious literature. Outside of my own education, I have continued to teach, whether as a professor, teacher's assistant, tutor, or substitute.
