Bethany's Bio & Tutoring Experience
I have taught or tutored elementary, middle, and high school students.
For two years, I worked at an after school program called the Best Choice Center in Winston-Salem, NC. I was in the K-2 classroom, and often alternated between ten and twenty children in one afternoon. Each child required a unique and articulated learning experience. I developed hands-on activities for each student to to teach them basic math and spelling.
During the summer of 2013, I organized, scheduled, and managed the Junior Mentor Program at Broughton Psychiatric Hospital. The program aimed to teach local middle and high school students about mental health, and to simultaneously break down the stigma surrounding mental illnesses. I created my own lesson plan, along with teaching tools such as power points, relevant videos, and hands-on games to help the students remember the material better.
