Brad's Bio & Tutoring Experience
For the last 12 years, I have been a 6-8th grade mathematics teacher for the Northridge Local School district in Dayton, Ohio. In my time there, I have developed strong methods of teaching that address all types of learners in an informative, but accessible style. I was originally brought into the Northridge district to design a math program for the middle school during the 2003-2004 school year. The institution of this program raised our state testing scores in math 212% in the first year alone. As the program evolved and developed over the years, Northridge Local Schools went from being on the Ohio Department of Education’s list of twenty lowest performing middle schools in the state to two consecutive years (2010-2012) of Excellent ratings.
I am skilled in working with students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. The success of my instruction is dependent on an inviting personality, patience and the persistence to adapt lessons so that each member of the classroom has his or her academic needs satisfied.
In tutoring sessions, you are guaranteed infinite patience and a "plain English" approach to mathematics. Chances are, you've had a math teacher who has proclaimed that there are only 2 ways to solve a problem: The way they teach you, and the wrong way. This is why so many people fear math. There are many, many ways to solve math problems. There is more personal style and perspectives than many people realize. I am adept at quickly discerning learning styles and adapting an approach to make ANYONE (yes, anyone) successful at math. Boys, girls, men, women, 12 years old, 80 years old. That's the beauty of mathematics. It doesn't care how old you are, where you're from or how you did on the last problem. It never changes and it is so beautifully predictable.
