Brandi's Bio & Tutoring Experience
To Whom It May Concern,
As a recent graduate from the George Fox University MAT program, I have a very strong interest in tutoring your child. With experience working at both the middle and high school levels, as well as in activities outside of the traditional classroom, I have a diverse background with much to offer.
My first classroom teaching experience involved thirty hours of observation in a sixth-grade Humanities classroom at Sky View Middle School in Bend, Oregon. While there, I designed and taught one lesson on the Mayan and Aztec civilizations.
In the fall, I student taught in a seventh-grade English Language Arts classroom at Elton Gregory Middle School in Redmond, where I utilized EngageNY—curriculum that employs both compelling content and engaging strategies while strongly integrating Common Core State Standards(CCSS).
I recently completed a full-time placement at Redmond High School. Throughout this student-teaching experience, I taught Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior standard English, as well as Junior A.P. English. Mirrors & Windows was the curriculum of choice, and while it actively promoted CCSS, it also allowed me the freedom to think outside of the box and fuse my passion for technology and media into the classroom. Additionally, I assisted in an Advanced Drama course—an opportunity that made use of my many years of training on the stage.
My talents extend beyond the English classroom, as I have a degree in Journalism and have worked for two local magazines—as an intern at Central Oregon Magazine and employee at 1859 Oregon’s Magazine. While working for the latter, I not only wrote and edited copy, but I also managed and assisted in the development and design of the company's website and social media outlets.
I also studied Italian at the University of San Diego and University of Oregon, where I received a minor in the language. Within that time, I spent a semester abroad in Milan, Italy studying Italian and Communication at Universita` Cattolica. All of the above has increased my cultural awareness and knowledge of writing considerably.
Outside of my success as a professional and student teacher, I have also found achievement within my personal life. As a wife, mother of two, dance instructor, and aspiring author, I find daily fulfillment in having created a family while still managing to honor my interests—this alone proves that I am driven and a master at multitasking.
Thank you for your interest and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss future tutoring opportunities.
Sincerely,
Brandi D. Nichols
