Brendan's Bio & Tutoring Experience

To quote The Godfather, “I believe in America.” I believe in the promise of the American Dream, and that it should be available to all of those who choose to strive for it. As the founders saw, the only way to make this possible was through education. Education is still the key to social mobility in America; it enabled me to make the journey from the plumbing-free log cabin that I grew up in to Harvard. I chose to become a teacher so that I could help enable others to make similar journeys in their lives.

Since I made that decision, I have taught and found success in a wide variety of educational contexts. After working for two years in the New York City Public School System at a failing middle school in Bushwick, Brooklyn, I moved on to On-Location education, and its small groups of non-traditional students in extremely non-traditional locations. Presently, I work at York Prep School, and independent school with a focus on inclusion for children with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Additionally, throughout this time, I have worked as a one-on-one tutor, helping students in a diverse array of subjects, including preparation for the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, and ISEE, as well as academic subjects, including World, European, and US History (AP included), and English/Language Arts .

Throughout my years of teaching, I have learned how to break down complicated ideas into smaller, more relatable ones, and how to make any subject interesting, if not necessarily thrilling.
