Deborah's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I am a certified teacher who resigned at the end of the 2014-2015 school year to keep my grandson full time. My teaching license is good through 2021. I worked for Knox County Schools for 7 years and Blount County Schools for 1 1/2 years. The majority of my work was in Special Education at the Elementary level. However, my degree includes Elementary Education K-6 and Special Education Pre-K to 12. I also have experience homeschooling students with medical conditions preventing them from attending public school. I raised three children, one of whom was born with a terminal disease and passed away at the age of 7. I believe all students can learn. I have a diverse knowledge of education applications with a broad range of visual, tactile, and motor learning. I have worked with students who had little knowledge of the English language as well as those from inner city circumstances and have extensive experience both writing and performing IEP (Individual Education Plan) meetings.

I have a BS in Special Education from The University of Tennessee Knoxville. I am trained in RTI (Response to Intervention, TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention), and served on both our school wide behavior team and our crisis management team. Prior to teaching I retired after 20 years in business management.
