Dillon's Bio & Tutoring Experience

For the past two years I have been volunteering in a program at the Chapel (Akron Campus) called Thrive. In this prorgam I am a part of a team of volunteers that tutors middle school and high school aged refugee students (from Nepal) once a week. In this prorgam I have worked with both middle and high school students. We help the students with any homework they might have, so I have experience tutoring across all middle school and high school subjects.
In this program we are also concerned with building relationships with the students. As such, part of my methodlogy is to not only help students figure out thier school work, but to be extremely encouraging along the way. I believe it is important to praise the students when they do well, encourage them when they are struggling, and consistently praise them for their effort.

I graduated from Mapleton high school with a 3.85 GPA, and an honors diploma. I took advanced classes; including calculus. I am currently entering my final year as an undergraduate student in the University of Akron Honors College. I'm majoring in philosophy, and minoring in creative writing. I currently have a GPA of 3.73
