Emily's Bio & Tutoring Experience

My tutoring experience goes back to high school, where I participated in peer-tutoring at Ragsdale High School for two years. Upon graduation, I obtained a job as a part-time tutor for a young boy with severe, nonverbal Autism for four years during and after college. In working with him, I developed a passion for teaching students, particularly students with disabilities, in the areas of Literacy, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. I chose to pursue this passion by enrolling in TEACH Charlotte, a highly-selective, lateral-entry licensure program for recent graduates dedicated to closing the achievement gap in Mecklenburg County's highest-need schools. I am highly qualified to teach K-12 Special Education-General Curriculum. I now am a second-year teacher at a middle school in Matthews, where I co-teach Language Arts and Math classes, as well as lead-teach a specialized literacy course. I tutor several of my students outside of school in all subjects.
