Gabrielle's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I am an exceptional tutor because I am adept at determining what teachers' expectations are, care about listening to students, and never complete work for students. I have been tutoring off and on for 16 years, with 12 years of experience. I am particularly strong as a writing tutor. I just moved to Maryland and nine years into my professional teaching career (Middle and High School English), I am taking a year off to be with my young child. We moved from Madison, WI, where I tutored students in remedial, college prep, honors, and AP English. I have experience working with freshman composition students in college and have helped students improve their ACT reading and English scores. I have helped facilitate large improvements (17-25, 21-29) as well as the more finicky improvements in the 30s where one or two types of questions or finding a way to move a little more quickly can be the difference between a dream school and a second choice.) Tutoring is a great way for any student to become a better writer, reader, and thinker. Who doesn't benefit from one-on-one attention to these crafts? I help students set and meet reasonable goals, improve their attitudes toward reading and writing, and learn strategies for continued success. While a few of my tutoring students have stayed with me a whole academic year, many have excelled after just a quarter or a semester, no longer needing my support. My hobbies are reading and writing, I love teaching, and I can’t wait to meet my new tutoring students.
