Garrett's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I am an exceptional tutor with an outstanding education, student friendly personality, and experience tutoring all levels of education including elementary school, middle school, high school, college, and post-graduate studies.

There are a few things I want to highlight about my experience and approach to tutoring.
First, everyone can read, write, and do math; and they can do them well. As a national champion debate coach, it was my job to show kids in high school and college, kids with no previous debate experience, how to negotiate and succeed at one of the most complicated English-language activities in existence. I worked with each student individually to identify their strengths and weaknesses and then improve them gradually until they were competitive on the national circuit.
Second, I believe that education is an experience that benefits from a cross-disciplinary approach. Mathematicians need to know the history of mathematics and its impact on other industries and disciplines. English students need to understand the evolution of English. Social science students benefit from exposure to new ideas. My tutoring style focuses on the elements necessary to meet the student's learning objectives, and augments each session with additional information that helps to cement the core concepts in the student's mind.
Finally, learning is fun. Studies show that stress inhibits retention and promotes poor decision making, but that laughter increases engagement and retention. While progress is the name of the game and the priority, it is best achieved by a tutoring method that makes the student want to come back for more.
