By New Hampshire standards, I am considered a Highly Qualified Teacher and am in possession of a NH certification for English Language Arts (5-12) and a B.A. in English, with a concentration in American Literature. As I consider myself a life-long learner, I aim to continue my growth by participating in the Master’s program offered by Upper Valley Educator’s Institute.

I believe I will be a valuable asset to the academic community in this position. My experiences with intern teaching and substituting have provided me with the opportunity to interact with a diverse student population. I consistently use teaching methods which strive for the greatest level of student engagement by providing an array of high-interest learning materials, multiple techniques for assessment (both formative and summative) and instruction. By exposing the students to carefully designed lessons/units with clear learning objectives, I strive to ensure students achieve social and academic growth while understanding their place in the local and global community.

My experiences with education have afforded me the chance to expand on my passion for forging relationships with students to help build a sense of confidence and enable them to grow as learners. In addition to believing in the personal success of every student, I am also quite passionate about providing students with multiple opportunities to prepare themselves for the challenges which they will undoubtedly face as they grow to be adults, including problem solving in an efficient & productive collaborative environment. I offer many opportunities to access learning via both traditional methods and available technology. As part of their authentic learning experience students are encouraged to employ technology to foster better engagement with the content and subject matter. Moreover the students’ use of and familiarity with technology provides valuable training for use in applicable real-world skills.

Through my experience in program administration and the IT profession, I appreciate the importance of self-motivation and organizational skills. Additionally, I am exceptionally good at time-management and utilizing my innate creativity within our classroom context for learning. I have found these skills to be invaluable as I enter the world of education and have consequently found great success in my administrative duties and intern teaching. These successes have solidified my decision to return to the school environment to become a tutor.
