Jessica's Bio & Tutoring Experience

As a doctoral student, I have taught a wide variety of undergraduate courses throughout my academic career. Throughout this time, I was responsible for all aspects of being the primary teacher, and these teaching commitments started during my master’s degree several years ago. That said, although I do not have a state license yet, I want to demonstrate that I do, in fact, already have several years of independent teaching experience. Aside from my doctoral program, I have babysat for the same family throughout the entire duration of my graduate program. This family has two young boys and during my time with them, I'm always assisting, mentoring, and educating the boys with numerous projects, and tasks. Additionally, I previously taught Sunday school for several years at my local church for the middle childhood age group. I want to highlight my activities outside of school to support my point that I have taught a wide range of students, of both genders, and have the experience to understand the various needs of any age group. I am majoring in education because I truly care about enriching the lives of students at any age level. I have remained proactive about voluntarily seeking other avenues to educate different students outside of my program because I personally wanted a greater degree of variation to enhance my capabilities. I absolutely love to help individuals learn and I thrive on finding constructive and innovative ways to tailor learning styles to each individual’s personalities for better comprehension. Given the opportunity, I am completely confident in my ability to improve a student's learning by first establishing a trusting relationship, then incorporating my own background knowledge to guide me in understanding their learning style, and finally adjusting my approach to best suit the student's needs.

I am currently a 4th year PhD student in Educational Studies, currently working on my dissertation. My master's degree was interdisciplinary, which means that I was able to incorporate several areas from various disciplines into a research topic. My undergraduate degree was actually in business and my master's degree enabled me to see my passion aligned better with education and psychology. Finally, for high school I attended a catholic, all-girls school.
