Jessica's Bio & Tutoring Experience
Hello!
My name is Jessica. I am a graduate of Case Western’s Psychology Program. During college, I worked as a freelance tutor, helping students of all ages around Cleveland. Mostly, students wanted help with upcoming tests or college exams. The majority of my experience is working on preparing for the SAT/ACT/GED exams; however, I have also given lessons in Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, English, German, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, Latin, Greek, all Elementary/Middle School subjects, and study skills.
After college, I moved to China for a year to teach English. My classes there were college students during the week and younger students (1st - 8th grade) on the weekend. I took the extra weekend job in a different city so that I could work with some younger kids! It was a joy to work with students so eager to learn!
Education is my passion, and I feel happy being able share knowledge with so many people. :) The teaching during a tutoring lesson is not only one-way - each of my students teaches me something new. I feel lucky to have a job that allows me to both teach and learn at the same time.
Study skills and strategies for working under pressure are extremely important for success in school and in life. I make it a point to focus on the student, observe his/her individual study style, pinpoint how best he/she learns, and tailor my lessons personally. Getting to know a student helps immensely in the learning process.
Additionally, keeping interest and focusing on the lesson can be challenging for some students. Doing math problems for an hour straight isn't exactly riveting! I try to break up any mundane exercises with educational games, modern technology, and discussions about school, current events, and daily life. Being interested and actively engaged in learning makes it seems less like work and much more fun!
I am able to begin tutoring immediately. My schedule is very flexible, and I always try to work around my clients' schedules. Although I do not have access to a vehicle, I am able to meet at my own Cleveland Heights home, your home, or at public libraries and local venues throughout the greater Cleveland area.
I have a resume and references available upon request!
Hope to hear from you soon!
