Julia's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I was a substitute teacher in the Roanoke City Public School System before relocating to Hampton, VA. I have worked with all ages and abilities, as well as substituting in many different subjects. I have worked with special needs students as well. I enjoy working with all children because each child is unique. Not only that but each child has different ways that they learn, different forms that enable them to retain information more clearly. First and foremost is to make a positive connection with any student while establishing a clear set of goals and expectations. Every student has the ability to learn. People continue to learn every day. Finding a way to enjoy learning is important, even when it may seem completely impossible. (I know that when I was in middle and high school the last thing I was concerned with was enjoying the information I learned.) Each person has things they excel at. Incorporating those things into every day life and for use in teaching has been shown to increase self esteem and intrinsic learning.
