Kathryn's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I believe that all children can learn, but there is no one-size-fits-all education. Each child is unique in his or her learning strengths, weaknesses, interests and educational needs, and it is the job of the teacher (and tutor!) to find creative and exciting ways to teach and engage with each child. Learning can and should be fun!

With over 5 1/2 years in the classroom, I have experience working students ages pre-K to 8th grade in all subject areas. My strongest personal attributes have contributed to my success in working with children. I am extremely patient, compassionate, organized, intelligent, dedicated, and passionate about life. My direct experiences working with children have also engaged my creativity. Whether it be developing meaningful projects, uncovering teaching moments, or finding a way to communicate with a child, I am able to get through to them. I am proud of my ability to recognize what is special about each child, my ability to look at the world and teach in many different areas through multiple pathways in order to appeal to diverse learning styles, as well as my dedication to excellence. Teaching effectively is not only recognizing what is special about each student and tailoring instruction to them, it is also about making each student feel successful and motivating them to want to engage and learn with me.

In May 2008, I graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN and received my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology. While substitute teaching in a charter school for immigrants and refugees, I also earned my Masters of Education in Elementary Education in March 2011 at DePaul University in Chicago. I am certified to teach grades Pre-K-9 in Illinois, K-6 in Missouri, and K-6 in Pennsylvania. I currently working on obtaining my Michigan teaching certificate!
