Kimberly's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I have tutored and taught in a variety of learning settings. In college, I was active in tutoring through Pipeline Project, working with middle school students individually, small group and whole classes, in the Seattle area for all core content subject areas. I led a writing facilitation workshop for sixth graders, increasing their basic writing skills and idea generation.

Following college, I began teaching English Language Arts, Social Studies and Math at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School. Working with students, I was able to increase their reading fluency and comprehension by 1.8 years in just one academic year. On the Hawaii State Assessment, my students scored an average improvement of 28 points from the beginning to end of year, which beat the school average.

I have a Hawaii teacher license from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board and have passed the Praxis series of tests in English and Math, qualifying me for Highly Qualified status from No Child Left Behind legislation. I am skilled in adapting teaching methods to each individual student, and knowledgeable in content to improve student outcomes.
