Latoya's Bio & Tutoring Experience

My tutoring experience started when I was in high school. I would tutor younger children in subjects such as reading and math. I also became a mentor.

During the past 19 years I have had the opportunity to travel to various states in America and numerous countries in the world while in the Air Force. I was stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Utah as a Weather Observer/Forecaster as my first assignment. During that time I volunteered as a Big Sister in addition to tutoring numerous students at the base elementary/middle school. Another base I was stationed at was Enrique Soto Cano Air Base in Honduras, which is located in Central America. The base had a program that allowed me to tutor the local children in reading and writing English. Teaching has always been my passion. While I was in the military I would take advantage of every opportunity to teach and train individuals and groups of people.

As a child I really felt left behind in school. It seemed as if no one took the time to ensure that I understood the lessons. I can remember going into the military and attending my first day in technical school. I felt so lost because it seemed as if everyone else understood what the instructor what talking about when he was teaching except for me. Right at that moment I decided that I would eventually become an educator so that I could keep as many people as possible from feeling the way that I did that day. That was a defining moment in my life.

I have a Masters of Education in Adult Education and Training from University of Phoenix, Bachelors of Art in Natural Sciences/Mathematics from Thomas Edison State College, and an Associates of Art in Weather Technology from the Community College of the Air Force.
