Malasia's Bio & Tutoring Experience
Greetings,
My name is Malasia Johnson. I am currently a college sophomore majoring in Psychology at Governors State University. I have learned a lot through my academic journey that has brought me to the place I am today. I know that learning the content in school can become overwhelming and difficult depending on the structure of the class, the teacher, and the rate at which the student learns. This was my biggest struggle through school as often times I felt that I could not connect the information learned in the classroom to my homework and assessments. Quickly, I learned more about my learning needs and in which ways I learned most effectively. By figuring out what would allow me to retain the learning content, I was able to master areas that I was once struggling in.
I am very grateful for this experience because now I am able to tutor those who are in the same place I was in many years ago. Students do not always learn at the same rate and sometimes need to see things from a different perspective. For example, consider remembering the states and their capitals. One might find it necessary to view the states and their capitals on a colorful map because that visual will help them remember. On the other hand, one might find it more effective if they list it on index cards. These types of things are important to consider when trying to effectively teach content to a student. I would like to consider myself to be well experienced in the areas of English, Reading, Math, and skills on testing. Overall, my experience with my academic journey has given me the necessary skills to understand what each student needs. My goal is to make a difference in students' lives one day at a time.
