I have found success in my past tutoring experiences through the implementation of a 3-step process which is really quite simple but extremely effective. 1) Identify the needs of the student, working from the broad to the very specific. As English Language & Literature is my area of specialty, I determine whether the student is in need of basic spelling, vocabulary, or grammar skills all the way up to complex reading comprehension and writing compostion abilities. 2) Demonstrate first to the student the proper method which corresponds to their needs, have them demonstrate it back, give him feedback, and achieve success through repetition. 3) Convey to the student that you are both there to attain the same goal, his educational success. Language is the building block for all comunication and without a solid base in this area of the study the student will be unable to excel in any other field of study.

I graduated from the University of Virginia in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. I was also a high school Engish/ESL in Virginia for 3 years. I have been privately tutoring students since 2008.
